Amazing Amphibians

Family Nature Program called Amazing Amphibians 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Saturday May 24 at Sodalis Nature Preserve. To begin life in water breathing through gills to transforming into air-breathing creatures with lungs is one of nature’s miracles! Amphibians, which includes frogs, toads and salamanders, all lay eggs in water and emerge to live as adults on land. We will walk to the pond at Sodalis and see if we can find any amphibian eggs, tadpoles or adult frogs or toads near the water. Most amphibians call and mate at night March-June. Wear water shoes or boots. Nets and buckets will be provided. Be sure to sign up as access to the pond is limited and we don’t want to overly disturb whatever we may find. The program will be rescheduled if bad weather is imminent.
These programs are led by Hannibal Parks and Recreation’s Nature Interpreter Gale Rublee and members of the Mississippi Hills Missouri Master Naturalist chapter.
Due to the generous donation of Hannibal BASF, nature programs are free of charge.
